Dr. John English, DVM

Veterinarian / Owner

Dr. English's Bio

Dr. John English is a 1982 graduate of Haywood High School in Brownsville, TN. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. He then attended Mississippi State University where he received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. After graduating from MSU, Dr. English began working for Dyer County Animal Hospital in Dyersburg, TN from May 1990 to March 1992. In 1992, he built and established Animal Care Hospital in Ripley, TN. In August of 2010, he sold Animal Care Hospital and continued to do relief work at Animal Care Hospital and also worked part-time at Mid South Spay & Neuter Services in Memphis, TN for 5 years. In August of 2015, he then opened and established English Veterinary Care in Atoka, TN.

Dr. English is a member of the Memphis County Veterinary Association and the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. He and his wife Judy have been married for 30+ years and live in Munford, TN. They have three children and are members at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Dr. Eduard Meyer, DVM

Dr. Meyer's Bio
Dr. Eduard Meyer graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.

From 2016 to 2021, he served as an associate veterinarian at English Veterinary Care. He then worked as a relief veterinarian for several AAHA-accredited hospitals in the Wichita and Topeka areas. For the past two years, he practiced at an AAHA-certified hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.

In January 2025, Dr. Meyer returned to English Veterinary Care after relocating back to the Munford/Atoka area.

He has a special interest in orthopedics and is certified in TightRope repair for cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries, as well as hip luxation replacements. He has received additional training in orthopedic procedures involving external fixators, SOP plates, and standard pins and wires to address various hindlimb conditions.

Dr. Meyer is also trained in diagnostic ultrasound, specifically using the GlobalFAST protocol to identify abnormalities in the chest and abdomen.

Proficient in small animal soft tissue surgery, he performs a wide range of procedures, including cystotomy, gastropexy, intestinal foreign body removal, pyometra surgery, tumor excision, urethrostomy, umbilical and inguinal hernia repair, cryptorchid neuter, and C-sections.

He also supervises dental cleanings and performs surgical extractions of molars, premolars, and canine teeth.

Outside of work, Dr. Meyer enjoys spending time at home with his wife, their two Boston Terriers, and their senior Shih Tzu. His hobbies include woodworking, fishing, golfing, and assembling miniature metal models.
